Victorian Cage Bustle

The "Rachel" Bustle Mid-1880ís Style

Victorian ladies knew that wearing the proper underpinnings contributed much to creating the current popular silhouette.  Our Rachel bustle is inspired by an original in my collection (pictured on the right at the bottom of this page), and each one is personally hand-crafted in our studio.  Wearing this bustle will give you the correct foundation when wearing stylish Victorian gowns representing the era from late 1883 through early 1889.

This bustle is lightweight and surprisingly comfortable. It is short enough not to be in your way when seated.  Treat it like you would a hat - it is sturdy, but don't lean back, or you will squash it.  A woman once told me after my Victorian Underwear program, "I was taught that a lady never leaned back in her chair, but would 'perch' on the front edge."  Now we know why!
