Cowgirl Skirts & Vests

Blue Eyes

Women on the American Western frontier during the late 1800's began wearing practical buckskin skirts and vests as ranch wear. Our hand-made skirts and matching vests are made of high-quality deerskin for comfort, beauty and durability.
They are inspired by designs worn by early Wild West performers, turn-of-the-century rodeo cowgirls, the Silver Screen, and "Dudeens" who frequented the Dude Ranches of the West from the 1920's-1940's.
Our deerskin leather cowgirl skirt is cut very full with a straight waistband, two pockets, and a laced placket in back.

Split Riding Skirt
Split Riding Skirts

As early as the late 1800's through the beginning of the 1900's, split skirts were worn by Wild West Show performers, as well as, early rodeo women. Rodeo performers and show contestants such as Mildred Douglas, Verna Dobbs, and Joella Irwin preferred to wear split leather riding skirts. Not only were they decorative, they were practical and afforded the rider much needed protection.

Fancy Rhinestone cowgirl outfit
Special Order Cowgirl Clothing

Fancy cowgirl outfits came along with the Dude Ranch, Silver Screen and country music. Evidence of these outfits can also be seen in B-Westerns such as the 1939 movie "Destry Rides Again." The rhinestone outfit (#520) left was inspired by Marlene Dietrich's character in this movie. Custom-designed rhinestone and fancy cowgirl outfits, along with women's buckskins, are available by request.
